The term Cloud Computing refers to a set of ICT services accessible on-demand and in self-service mode through internet technologies, based on shared resources, characterized by flexibility of use and punctual measurability of performance levels, in order to be able to be paid according to consumption.
A recent document from our institutions has defined the processing of PA data in Strategic, Critical and Ordinary and the types of Cloud Computing in Public Cloud, Private Cloud, Hybrid Cloud and Multi Cloud.

With reference to Defense, it is clear that we have to talk about Strategic Data and Private Cloud and the latter as the only one possible for the Italian Defense.

But what does the Private Cloud represent?
The Private Cloud consists of a Cloud Environment reserved for a Customer infrastructure and for its exclusive use. It can be of the “on-premises” type or based on an infrastructure entirely included in the Domain of the User, who holds the control and complete responsibility for the maintenance and security of the data and services hosted and allocated at its own structures. While on the one hand these solutions allow almost maximum security, on the other hand they have the disadvantage of not being able to guarantee adequate scalability to manage unexpected peak demand.
The Afcea seminar will try to trace a possible line of approach to take advantage of the speed, low latency and data storage capacity that a dedicated cloud could give to the Italian Defense in total security by Design.

To examine this issue, the Rome Chapter of AFCEA International has organized a conference for December 2 next to which representatives of Defense, NATO and industry will participate. At the moment, the VI Department of the Defense Staff, the NATO NCIA – NATO Communications and Information Agency, the JAPCC – Joint Air Power Competence Center of NATO, Almaviva, IBM Italia, Microsoft, Teleconsys, Digital Platforms, OVHCloud have confirmed their participation.
